NEWS FROM ROZ
30th October '09
Roz writes:
"Ainur
and I have been at Matt and Marie Ryan’s
yard for six weeks now, and we are loving it!
The first few weeks were hard; I think Ainur was
suffering from slight homesickness. But once she
had settled in and I had got used to the early
mornings, we really started to enjoy being here.
"Since being here Ainur's
flatwork has improved incredibly – her outline
is transformed, as she is more consistently working
rounder. If anything she has come too round for
now, and sometimes overbends; but it’s not
a major worry, we’re told, and she will
come right as she continues to be correctly worked.
Her shoulder-in has improved, as her leg-yield,
and I am pleased with her lateral work. Ainur
jumps about once a week; in these sessions we
do angles and combinations, and since being at
the Ryans’ the height of fences has increased!
"One of my biggest thrills
was riding Bonza Puzzle, Matt’s Badminton
horse, on the gallops the other day. Ainur looks
very well, and I feel prepared for next year’s
eventing season when we hope to start doing Intro." |

TEDDY’S SHOWJUMPING WIN
4th October '09
After one or two wins by default in small classes, Teddy
has had his first proper win, jumping a double clear at the
ODFRC Show. This is a welcome improvement on the trails of
splintered poles that followed his first appearances in public.

ROZ AND AINA GOING TO MATT & MARIE RYAN
Friday 28th August '09
The Ryans have very kindly taken Roz on as a working pupil;
she and Aina are now at their

the guidance of a triple Olympic Gold Medallist – very
exciting for all concerned!

MONMOUTHSHIRE SHOW DISASTER!
Thursday 27th August '09
We arrived at the Monmouthshire Show early in the morning
to find that classes had collapsed for lack of entries, and
the entire Hunter Breeding followed by Sporthorse Breeding
had been completed at an average of 10 minutes per class.
A lot of work for nothing!
There were some very angry exhibitors and
not a few raised voices. The organisers were very apologetic
and refunded everyone's entry fees.

YOLDASH AT BEF FUTURITY
21st July 2009
Jackie Richardson took her three-quarter-bred foal Yoldash,
Firyuza's son by Dominik, to
the BEF Futurity Event at Okehampton, entering him for the
Endurance section. Jackie says, "Yoldash excelled himself
and came away with a First Premium with a score of 8.64 out
of 10. The Elite Premium is over 9 and is hardly attainable."
Congratulations to all concerned.

AKHAL-TEKE BREED SHOW AT MALVERN
18th July 2009
Team Teke held its first Breed Show at the Three Counties
Showground in Malvern, by invitation of the British Palomino
Society who very kindly sub-let one of their rings to us.
Amazingly, we had the one dry afternoon of the month. There
were a total of eleven entries - not bad for a first running
- and some of the best horses were there, judged for us by
Caroline Baldock.
Darya Hannigan's very classy stallion Dominik
won the in-hand - the most important event of the day. Teddy
came last, Caroline commenting very politely that he might
do better in a working hunter class. He redeemed himself in
the ridden class, surprising us all by coming first.
This was a first outing for Django,
who behaved like a seasoned pro in Emma's very capable hands.
He won his class by default, being the only entry.
Caroline has of course seen these horses in
their native Turkmenistan, and, as a jockey, has raced Thoroughbreds,
their descendants. She gave the competitors their money's
worth by discussing each horse with the handler/rider, and
after she had made her decisions, she explained how she had
arrived at them to the spectators: everyone felt involved!
Full results were as follows:
Pure-bred under 4: DJARGALAN
(Kyzyl Akhal-Tekes)
Part-bred under 4: LÄLE
(Jenny Barnes)
Pure-bred 4 & Over: DOMINIK (Aylesbury Vale Akhal-Tekes)
Part-bred 4 & Over: KYZYL
MOONRAKER (Lizzie Nicholl)
Pure-bred Ridden: TEDZHEN
(Kyzyl Akhal-Tekes)
Part-bred Ridden: KYZYL
MOONRAKER (Lizzie Nicholl)

AKHAL-TEKES AT ARAB-TRAKEHNER SPORTHORSE EVENT
20th June 2009
Including Teddy and Aina,
who was fifth in the Dressage Prelim 12 - a great result by
Roz doing her first dressage test this year, just two days
after completing her A Levels.
Beth Dee was second in the Sporthorse Youngstock
class with Midoak Magic
Icon, her two-year-old part-bred by Atamekan.

FIZZ BECOMES A MUM…
4th June 2009
and Aina a grandmother…
and Kaan a great-grandfather.
Fizz has produced a lovely
buckskin colt by Darya Hannigan's Akhal-Teke stallion Dominik.
Mother and baby doing well!
He has been named Yoldash, which means "friend"
or "companion" in Turkmen.
TED'S COMPETITION DEBUT
28th May 2009
Teddy did his first showjumping
competition at Tack Farm this week - and came 2nd in his class.
(And fifth in the next.) When he has learned to pick his feet
up he could go one higher…

SPRING HAS SPRUNG
20th May 2009
Sam and Xan
were able last month to go out into their spring/autumn paddock,
where they have more space, more grass but unfortunately no
field shelter, which limits its use.

ROZ & AINA MAKE THE NEWS
20th March 2009

Roz and Aina had their picture
in the local press recently. Under the heading, "The
most amazing all-round sports horses", the Horse &
Rider section in the Hereford Times featured them both with
an article about the Akhal-Teke - a welcome piece of publicity
for the breed.
The newspaper article can be viewed here:
